Although described on the cover as a collection of short stories' this is perhaps more of a collection of personal memories of his life in and around the military barracks ( now the Garda College) his time in the Irish Army , marching bands ( and military bands, of which he was a member) etc. Illustrated, stapled covers, 68 pages, 2009.
The title comes from a reply from a recruiting sargeant when asked by a recuit what he would need to do in the army - the reply being ' Eat meat ( 'ate mate') and follow the Band' .
There is a small area of paper ppel on the front cover where a sticker was badly removed ( just over the word Ate in the title)
